How does this mouse DPI analyzer work?
This DPI analyzer divides the distance your pointer moves on screen by the physical distance your mouse travels, in inches. It gives a browser-based estimate that you can compare across repeated runs. It cannot read the DPI setting stored in your mouse.
DPI, CPI and mouse sensitivity
DPI is the familiar name used for mouse sensitivity settings. CPI means sensor counts per inch. This DPI checker measures screen pixels rather than raw sensor counts, so pointer speed, acceleration and display scaling can change the result.
The calculation behind the estimate
Estimated DPI = pointer distance in screen pixels ÷ physical distance in inches. For example, 800 screen pixels over 1 physical inch gives an estimate of 800. Distances entered in centimeters are converted using 2.54 cm per inch.
How to find your configured mouse DPI
Check your mouse software, onboard profile or manufacturer’s instructions for the selected DPI setting. Enter it in Configured DPI if you want a percentage comparison. The maximum DPI on a product specification is not necessarily the setting you are using.
What your DPI test result means
Use the same physical distance and system settings when comparing measurements. A difference from your configured DPI can reflect the screen-to-sensor scaling as well as measurement error.

How to test mouse DPI with a ruler
Place a ruler beside your mouse on the desk or mousepad. Enter the physical distance you plan to move; the default is 10 cm, and inches are also supported.
Optionally enter Configured DPI for a percentage comparison. Leave it blank if you do not know the setting.
Move the pointer inside the measurement area. Align the same edge of the mouse with your ruler’s starting mark, then press Space to begin.
Move in a straight line to the end mark. Press Space again without moving the mouse farther to finish and read Estimated DPI.
Repeat with the same distance and settings. If the pointer reaches the area’s edge before you finish, enter a shorter physical distance and start a new run.

Can I check my DPI without mouse software?
You can use this ruler test to estimate screen movement per inch without installing anything. To confirm the exact configured sensor DPI, use your mouse’s software or profile documentation. A website cannot read that setting directly.

Why is my DPI result different from 800 or 1600?
Pointer speed, acceleration, display scaling and physical measurement error can all affect the estimate. Keep these settings consistent and repeat. A difference alone does not show that the mouse’s DPI setting is wrong.

Why was my measurement cancelled?
Leaving the measurement area, switching windows or pressing Escape cancels the run so a partial distance is not shown as a finished result. Keep the pointer inside the area and use a shorter measured distance if necessary.

How can I make the DPI estimate more consistent?
Use a straight path, the same mouse edge at both ruler marks and a distance that fits within the test area. Keep your movement speed and system settings the same. Very short distances magnify small start and finish errors.

Can this DPI tester check image or printer DPI?
No. This tool estimates mouse pointer movement per inch. It does not inspect image resolution, printer settings or monitor pixel density.
