Click-and-hold check
Mouse Drag Test
Reproduce a drag that lets go too soon. Hold and move the target for five seconds, release, then review what the browser observed.
Use the selected mouse button to grab the target. Move it around for 5 seconds, then release. This is a drag-and-hold test, not a drag clicking test.
& Hold
Use a physical mouse. Move at least 40 screen pixels to include dragging. Press Esc to cancel. Leaving the window or switching tabs interrupts the check.
Why does my mouse stop dragging?
Dragging depends on a button staying pressed while the pointer moves. A release can come from letting go, input interruption or a device issue. This test records the input sequence so you can compare it with what you actually did.
Drag test or button test?
Use the Button Test to check whether each button responds or holds while stationary. Use this test to reproduce a dropped drag by moving a visible target while holding one button.
What an early release means
A release before five seconds is a timing observation, not a fault diagnosis. If you deliberately let go, it is expected. If you were still pressing, repeat and check another application before drawing a conclusion.

How to check a mouse that stops dragging
Select Left, Right or Middle. Use a physical mouse; touch and pen input do not start this test.
Grab the target using only the selected button. Move around the area while keeping it pressed.
Hold for at least five seconds and move at least 40 screen pixels. Release when the message asks you to finish.
If a release appears before you let go, repeat three times under the same conditions. The page cannot know whether you intended to release.
Compare a drag in another application, then another mouse on the same computer. Change one condition at a time.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
The target let go while I was still pressing. What next?
Repeat a few times without changing settings. Try dragging a window or selecting text in another application. If it happens across applications, compare another mouse and check the connection, battery and button mappings. This helps narrow the cause without assuming switch damage.
Why was the check interrupted?
Switching tabs, losing focus, pressing Escape or losing pointer capture interrupts observation. These events are kept separate from release results. Return to the page and start a fresh check.
Does Completed mean my mouse is healthy?
It means this attempt included at least five seconds of holding and 40 screen pixels of movement before release. Intermittent issues may not appear in one check. Repeat when the symptom occurs.
Is this a drag clicking or CPS test?
No. This test checks a sustained press during movement. It does not measure click speed or teach drag clicking techniques.
